Whether Medicare patients with advanced cancer will die while receiving hospice care or in the hospital varies markedly depending on where they live and receive care, according to the Dartmouth Atlas Project's first-ever report on cancer care at the end of life. The researchers found no consistent pattern of care or evidence that treatment patterns follow patient preferences, even among the nation's leading academic medical centers.

September 21, 2010 New Dartmouth researcher identifies race disparities in colorectal cancer deaths
A new study published by a team led by Samir Soneji, Ph.D., an assistant professor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) and Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center, shows that disparities in mortality rates from colorectal cancer due to racial differences increased from 1960 through 2005, even as the overall colorectal cancer mortality rate declined in the same period.
