SYNERGY is committed to advancing clinical and translational science by investing in promising investigators and high-impact research. Our internal funding mechanisms provide critical seed support to help researchers generate preliminary data, build cross-disciplinary partnerships, and move ideas closer to implementation. Whether you’re seeking to launch a new project, collaborate across institutions, or build your research career, we offer a range of opportunities to help you grow.
SYNERGY Translational Pilot Award Program
Provides seed funding to support innovative, high-risk, high-reward projects across the translational spectrum. Projects may address clinical challenges, novel diagnostics or therapeutics, implementation science, or healthcare access issues.
Consortium of Rural States (CORES) Multi-Institutional Pilot Program
Supports one-year, collaborative projects that aim to overcome barriers in translational research. Funding is open to early- and mid-career investigators and promotes research with real-world impact, especially in rural and underserved populations.
SYNERGY K12 Clinical and Translational Science Career Development Program
Supports early-stage investigators committed to translational research careers. This NIH-funded program provides up to two years of mentored support. Ideal for junior faculty aiming to develop independent research careers in translational science.
Success Stories
Dr. Siming Zhao Advances Precision Medicine Through Cross-Institutional Collaboration
Dr. Siming Zhao of Dartmouth is pioneering computational methods to make polygenic risk prediction more accurate across diverse genetic ancestries, addressing a critical gap in precision medicine. Through a SYNERGY CORES collaboration with Penn State CTSI, this work was recently shared at the 2025 ACTS Annual Meeting, advancing efforts to ensure genomic research benefits populations historically left out of existing models.
