Citing SYNERGY and Complying with NIH Policies
Researchers who receive support from SYNERGY, including funding, services, or resources, are required to acknowledge this support in their publications. Proper citation ensures compliance with NIH policies and helps demonstrate the impact of SYNERGY’s contributions to translational research.
When to Cite
You should cite SYNERGY if your work has benefited from
- SYNERGY funding (e.g., Pilot Awards, CORES Pilot Awards)
- Biostatistical or data analysis support
- Use of informatics tools (e.g., REDCap, TriNetX)
- Consultation services
- Access to core facilities or resources

Where to Cite
- Cite the grant in scholarly articles in the acknowledgement or funding sources section of your peer-reviewed publication.
- Cite the grant on a poster presented at conferences.
- Cite the grant in presentations about your research.
How to Cite
In your publications, please include the following acknowledgment –

Publications supported by SYNERGY must be submitted to PubMed Central and be assigned a PubMed Central ID (PMCID). This is part of the NIH Public Access Policy.
While some journals automatically submit publications to receive a PMCID, some require an author or approved designee to submit the article. Once your article is accepted for publication, if the journal does not automatically submit the article to PubMed Central, submit it yourself. Learn more about submission methods at the NIH. The process of obtaining a PMCID, which is NOT the same as a PMID, is a step towards compliance with the policy.
